February 2016

We are thrilled to have shared another excellent Evening of Romance with so many of you. The band had one of their best performances yet, Jeff sang with the Reno Jazz Orchestra, and the dance floor was packed with people having a great time.

Through all of our event mania, our music therapy and classes have continued to grow. We’ve doubled our music therapy hours at Senior Bridges inpatient unit, and we’re excited to have expanded music therapy at Northern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services to four days a week. The staff and patients love the addition of music therapy to their programs. Just today, a patient told me that I made her week by bringing music to the hospital.

At Renown, the Ukulele Kids Club has donated 5 ukuleles for us to give to children who show promise in learning how to play. Last week I had the pleasure of giving a brand new ukulele to a young boy who I believe is going to be an excellent uke player in no time! For kids in the hospital, having the chance to learn something new and engage in music is incredible.

Thanks to all of you who are a part of what we do here. We appreciate you!

Best of Facebook

This month our Facebook fans loved this video of a young woman who has had mental health issues her whole life. She found music as her expression. She lives on the fringes of community and yet clearly has so much to offer. What a joy that she has music for expression and connection with others!

Upcoming Events

Basement Session – February 22nd 12 – 1pm

Would you like to learn more about our programs? Or would you want to introduce someone else to music therapy? Come to a free lunch to learn about what is possible through music and music therapy. The Note-Ables also perform a few songs. It’s a great way to spend your lunch hour! RSVP to Sarah Toney by email or call 324-5521.

Light it Up! Morning Dance Party – February 25th 8 – 9am

Morning dance parties are starting up around the country. Why? Because dancing is fun and does more for waking you up than a gallon of coffee. This morning adventure is a lightly structured dance party led by Laurie Martin, and is on a donation basis. Park on the west side of McKinley and head down the steps to our basement classroom.
